Russian Federal Penitentiary Service's head guaranteed Navalny "normal conditions in the colony"

On February 25, the politician's lawyer Vadim Kobzev said that Navalny was transported from SIZO-1 (Matrosskaya Tishina / Sailor's Rest prison - editor's note) to the place of serving his sentence. This happened despite the fact that on 17 February the ECHR issued a decision ordering the Russian authorities to immediately release Navalny.

The ECHR considered the criminal prosecution of the politician in Russia to be politically motivated, and therefore illegal. The European Court said that, given the fact of the attempt on Navalny's life with the use of the Novichok military poison, the politician is in mortal danger in prison.

“I guarantee that there is no threat to health, life, especially”, - quotes the statement of the head of the FSIN Kommersant.

Kalashnikov refused to say to which colony Navalny was sent, but promised that his conditions of detention would be "absolutely normal".

“The regime, supervision and control will be provided to him one hundred percent. Navalny, if he wishes, will be involved in production activities”, - Kalashnikov said.

Politician Alexey Navalny was detained on January 17 at the Sheremetyevo airport while returning from Germany. There he underwent a long course of treatment and rehabilitation after being poisoned with the Novichok battle poison. At the request of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Navalny was taken into custody and then sent to a general regime colony for 3.5 years in the Yves Rocher case, replacing the suspended sentence with a real one.

Taking into account the house arrest, Navalny will spend 2.5 years in the colony. The Russian authorities decided to send Navalny to jail despite the fact that the ECHR recognized the Yves Rocher case as politically motivated and ordered the Russian authorities to pay compensation to the politician in connection with the illegal persecution.

In addition to a prison term in the Yves Rocher case, Navalny was sentenced to pay a fine of 850 thousand rubles in the case of “libel” against a veteran of the Great Patriotic War.

Meanwhile, participants in the Geneva Forum for Human Rights and Democracy awarded Navalny the Courage Prize. He was nominated for an award for his dedication "in defending justice and human rights".
