Clinical trials of Russian vaccine against the coronavirus will begin in June

This was reported to Izvestia by the Director General of Vector Rinat Maksyutov. He noted that at the center on the approach to the stage of clinical trials there are six variants of the coronavirus vaccine.

In the meantime, scientists plan to get the results of animal tests and wait for permission to move to a new stage from the Ministry of Health.

Before the vaccine will be sent to mass use, it must successfully pass laboratory tests, be in production and acquire a dosage form. This will be followed by a full range of preclinical and clinical studies and registration.

If the tests are completed successfully, the drug will be registered by September, and mass vaccination can be started at the end of the year.

Previously, the head of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gamalei Alexander Gunzburg said that mass vaccination of Russians can begin this fall and will last for nine months. Gunzburg noted that the center has already managed to test the vaccine on themselves. These were not official trials, but rather a way to protect themselves, the scientist specified.

“We have not just tested the antibodies, we checked the presence of protective antibodies that neutralize the virus”б - Gunzburg said then.

Recall that the World Health Organization pointed out that without a vaccine it will not be possible to defeat the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection. Despite the fact that hundreds of laboratories around the world are developing the vaccine, only nine research centers have been able to reach the stage of clinical trials of the development.

Meanwhile, the number of cases of COVID-19 in the world exceeded five million. More than two million have been cured of coronavirus. More than 340 thousand patients died from the disease. In Russia, the third largest number of cases of coronavirus infection, 353,427 cases of COVID-19 were recorded. 118 798 people recovered and were discharged from medical facilities. 3,633 patients died.
