Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law abolishing the compulsory medical examination of conscripts who are entitled to postponement or exemption from military service.

In accordance with the federal law "On Amendments to Article 5¹ of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation" On Military Duty and Military Service ", the text of which was published on May 26 on the official portal of legal information, some conscripts will have the right not to undergo an army medical examination. The privilege is granted to conscripts who have grounds for postponement or exemption from conscription, not related to health conditions.

“At the same time, such a medical examination can be carried out at the request of the conscript himself”, - Interfax reports.

The initiators of the innovation believe that such a measure will relieve the medical commissions from unnecessary work. Thanks to the relaxation, the total number of medical examinations will be significantly reduced, which ultimately will improve the health examination of those conscripts who do not have the right to be deferred or released from service.

From now on, conscripts who have a legal basis for postponement - for example, full-time students of universities, will not be able to waste time on going through unnecessary medical examinations. However, if they still want to be examined, they will need to write an application.
