On June 26, the Meshchansky court of Moscow convicted director Kirill Serebrennikov in the case of theft of subsidies for the Platforma project. Other defendants in the Seventh Studio case were also found guilty.

The verdict is still being announced, Kommersant reports. The measure of punishment has not yet been announced.

The verdict says that the former director of the Department of State Support for Art of the Ministry of Culture Sophia Apfelbaum did not know about the “criminal action” of Serebrennikov and others.

The amount of damage from the theft of subsidies for the Platform project was estimated at 128.9 million rubles.

Earlier, the state prosecutor requested for Serebrennikov six years in prison. In addition, the prosecutor asked to impose a fine of 800 thousand rubles on the director.

Former director of the Gogol Center Alexei Malobrodsky, the prosecutor asked for five years in prison. For Sophia Apfelbaum and the ex-CEO of Seventh Studio Yuri Itin - four years in prison.

Earlier, his colleagues, social activists, poets, and journalists spoke in support of the director. They demanded that the Ministry of Culture intervene in the proceedings.
