Writer Yevgeny Grishkovets was appointed chairman of the Public Council under the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN).

As "Novaya Gazeta" reports with reference to the telegram channel of the Public Chamber (OP) of Russia, Grishkovets's candidacy was approved "as a result of discussions with members of the OC and specialized commissions".

Deputy Chairman of the OP Vladislav Grib noted that it was important for the members of the commission that “a person known not only within the framework of the UIS, but also to all citizens” became the chairman.

According to Grib, Grishkovets is "an authoritative person who is difficult to put pressure on".

Members of the OC supported the candidacy of Grishkovets unanimously.

"Well, how - he headed it? Just made the head of the council. Why - council? To whom - council? I remember, as a child, my mother told me that advice can be sincere and insincere. Well, how - sincere? From the word spark - snow sparkles, God's - also a spark. FSIN - what is FSIN? What funny word", - quoted by Grishkovets Mash.

In recent months, the FSIN's reputation has been tarnished by numerous scandals. Associated with torture and corruption in Russian prisons.

The “last straw” in the bowl of public patience was video footage of torture, torture and rape of prisoners in the Saratov prison hospital, about which human rights activists have been talking for almost 10 years. However, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Investigative Committee began to investigate the crimes only after the videos of monstrous human rights violations were disseminated by the media. This happened thanks to the efforts of the Belarusian programmer, who saved the footage of the jailers' crimes and managed to transfer them to freedom through the activists of the human rights project "Gulagu.net".

Against the background of the ongoing scandal with the appearance of more and more evidence of torture of people in the FSIN system, Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Lieutenant General Anatoly Yakunin from his post as deputy head of the department. Prior to this post, the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Alexander Kalashnikov, lost. In his place was appointed the former deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Arkady Gostev.

Earlier in December it became known that a former member of the Moscow POC, Alexander Ionov, who wrote denunciations against Meduza *, Important Stories * and other media outlets, also joined the Public Council of the FSIN. According to the information on the organization's website, he is listed as the president of the “Anti-globalization movement of Russia”. Along with him, the council included journalists Andrei Kunitsyn (deputy head of the NTV information directorate) and Alexander Shashkov (TASS correspondent).
