The Soviet District Court of Tomsk sentenced the former mayor of the city Ivan Klein to two years in prison. He was found guilty of abuse of power and illegal business.

Also, the convict will have to pay a fine of 200 thousand rubles, writes RIA Novosti.

Ivan Klein has been the mayor of Tomsk since 2013. In November last year, he was arrested on suspicion of lobbying for the interests of the family business. Ivan Klein was the main shareholder of Tomskoe Pivo OJSC. After becoming mayor, he transferred the trust of the company to his wife, but from 2013 to 2020, he still managed the company himself.

The investigation established that in 2016 the mayor of the city placed the construction of a residential complex next to his plant. According to his instructions, information was entered into the GeoCad geographic information system that the 300-meter zone from his plant is a sanitary-protective one, which means that it is impossible to build residential buildings on this territory. Entrepreneur Rinat Aminov was unable to obtain a building permit.

Also in the materials of the case against the former mayor, it appears that in 2015 he helped his daughter win a land plot with an area of 852 sq. meters at a minimum cost. The city's budget was damaged in 180 thousand rubles. The city treasury could receive this money if it sold the site at a price close to the market price.
