The Professional Tennis Association (APR), Women's Tennis Association (WTA), organizers of four Grand Slam tournaments and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) intend to launch a fund worth over $ 6 million in order to help 800 players.

Funds will be distributed between singles and doubles, the Associated Press reports. Thus, each of the athletes will receive $ 7.5 thousand.

In the selection of players will be taken into account the rating of tennis players and the prize they earned earlier. Control over the distribution of money will lead the Asia-Pacific and WTA.

Recall that in connection with the pandemic, over 30 tennis tournaments were postponed or canceled altogether. Among them is Wimbledon, which was canceled for the first time in 75 years. Sporting events are not expected until mid-July. Therefore, many players outside the top 100 faced economic difficulties - many of these athletes participate in tournaments to earn money.

Earlier, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic contacted other members of the APR players' council - Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal - to discuss ways to help players.

- We had a conversation about the near future of tennis. “How can we help the lower-rated guys who are obviously experiencing the most difficulties,” said Djokovic.

He noted that most tennis players with a rating of up to 1000 do not have the support of the federation or sponsors.
