As RFU President Alexander Dyukov said, the union made the decision to resign the coach together with Cherchesov. Now the RFU is looking for a new candidate for the position of head coach, according to a message on the RFU website.

"The Russian Football Union will begin searching for candidates for the position of head coach, who will prepare the team for the qualifying matches of the 2022 World Cup", - is stated in the report.

The sports.ru source claims that three Russian applicants and three candidates from abroad are currently being considered for the position of head coach. Among the Russian specialists, the head coach of the national team can be Sergey Semak, who works with Zenit, Leonid Slutsky, who trains Rubin, or Valery Karpin, who is currently working with Rostov. The source of the publication notes that Semak is the most likely candidate for the position, since Slutsky and Karpin have previously publicly refused the prospect of working with the national team. However, the expert called this option the most pessimistic, since the coach is still "green" and has no credibility with the players. "If Slutsky and Karpin refuse again, then only foreign specialists should be considered", - he added.

It's worth reminding that Cherchesov headed the Russian national team since August 2016, writes "Soviet Sport". At the last European Football Championship, the Russian team showed not the best result, becoming "best among the worst" teams. The national team lost to Belgium and Denmark with a score of 0: 3 and 1:4, respectively. The win in the match with Finland with a score of 1:0 did not allow the team to score the required number of points to advance further.

After the failed championship, the RFU technical committee criticized the work of the head coach, calling it unsatisfactory, but noting that he still trusts Cherchesov as a coach. The fans were not satisfied with this situation: the initiative group of football fans stated that will file a lawsuit against the RFU demanding to fire Cherchesova.
