“The Cup of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War” is the exact name of the new annual tournament, the presentation of which took place at the CSKA Arena. The combined teams of the Legends of Hockey of the USSR and the Association of Amateur Hockey took to the ice.

Famous veterans of Russian hockey participated in the Gala match - Sergey Shepelev, Sergey Svetlov, Igor Mishukov and many others. "Stars" led by Alexander Yakushev, Vladimir Lutchenko and Yuri Lyapkin won with the light 10:7.

But the culmination of the event was the speech of the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, a participant in the legendary parade on November 7, 1941, 99-year-old Colonel General Boris Pavlovich Utkin. His parting words to the hockey players were supported by Russian pop stars and the Yunarmiya choir "Young Patriots".

According to the famous Soviet hockey player Vyacheslav Fetisov, "holding such a tournament will be an important part of efforts to popularize domestic hockey and patriotic education of youth."

It is curious that the cup, 75 cm high, was made by the Art Studio company from precious metals worthy of the memory of veterans - it is made from an alloy of shells collected from the fields of bloody battles in the hero cities of the Great Patriotic War.

The initiators of the new tournament were the non-commercial charitable foundation DVERIE and the magazine MILITARY BROTHERHOOD together with the Association of Amateur Hockey.

The winning teams of the tournament will forever be marked on the skeleton of the cup, which will be deposited until the next tournament in the Hockey Museum. The annual finals are planned to be held on the same significant day for all Russians - May 9, the newspaper "Soviet Sport" reports.
