EU approves sanctions against those who are responsible for violence in Belarus

The diplomat called on Belarus to find a non-violent way out of the current crisis and promised that the EU would be able to "accompany the peaceful transition of power".

- We call on the Belarusian authorities to find a peaceful solution to the situation by ending the violence, tension and de-escalate the launch of inclusive dialogue at the national level, - Michel turned to Minsk.

The organization that should mediate the peaceful transfer of power, Michel called the OSCE.

In addition, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that 53 million euros would be allocated “for the Belarusian people”. The funds should go to help businesses and health care in the face of a pandemic, as well as to help victims of violence and to support independent media.

Note that Washington also announced the possible introduction of sanctions against Belarus. According to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the United States has not yet decided what measures will be taken, but he assured that the United States will work on this issue together with its "European freedom-loving friends".

It should be reminded that the introduction of additional sanctions against Belarusian officials violating democratic freedoms of Belarusians was demanded by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
