The head of the European Council Charles Michel said that the European Union will soon impose sanctions against Belarus. The measures will affect those who are responsible "for violence, repression and rigged elections". The list may include the president of the republic, Alexander Lukashenko.

He also indicated that the European Union does not intend to recognize the results of the presidential elections, according to which Lukashenko won 80% of the vote. The diplomat called on Belarus to find a non-violent way out of the current crisis and promised that the EU would be able to "accompany the peaceful transition of power".

According to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the United States has not yet decided what measures will be taken, but he assured that the United States will work on this issue together with its "European freedom-loving friends".
