Rolls-Royce (Great Britain), which produces electric motors in addition to expensive cars, announced that its Spirit of Innovation small electric aircraft has set a world speed record in its class.

According to the BBC, the plane reached a speed of 623 km / h during a test flight. If this record is confirmed by independent experts, then we can talk about the highest speed that electric planes have ever reached in the USA, Germany or Japan.

The flight took place at Boscoom Down Air Force Base in Wiltshire. At the helm was pilot Phil O'Dell, who described the flight as a landmark event in his career.

Rolls-Royce claims that its new aircraft surpassed the last record set by German Siemens' electric plane in 2017 by 213 km / h. The aircraft also broke individual records at a distance of 3 and 15 km and in climb speed up to 3000 m.

The Rolls-Royce jet is powered by a 400 kilowatt electric motor, which is roughly the equivalent of 535 horsepower. The company claims that the aircraft's battery is the most capacious in all small aircraft - it would be enough to simultaneously charge 7,500 smartphones.
