According to Reuters, citing its own sources, the United States intends to introduce restrictive measures in accordance with several decrees. We are talking about decrees No. 13661 of 2014, which came into force after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, No. 13382 of 2005 - to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as the 1991 law on control over chemical and biological weapons.

According to CNN, the sanctions could be imposed during this week. This will happen in coordination with the European Union. And the exact dates will be specified in the coming days.

The channel clarifies that these sanctions will be the first imposed on the Russian Federation by the administration of the new President Joe Biden, and "will set the tone for further policy towards Moscow".

On March 1, the European Union agreed on sanctions over the situation with Navalny. Reuters noted that the restrictions will affect the heads of the law enforcement agencies - the chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov, the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov and the director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Alexander Kalashnikov.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Russia would not hesitate to impose its retaliatory sanctions if the law is passed.

It's worth reminding that Navalny was arrested in January at the Moscow Sheremetyevo airport. On February 2, the court replaced his 3.5-year suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case with a real term. Taking into account the time spent under house arrest, the oppositionist will have to spend another two years and eight months behind bars.
