Olaf Scholz said that the EU will stop importing Russian coal in the summer

In an interview with The Indian Express, Scholz noted that the EU is taking these measures as part of sanctions because of the special operation that Russia is conducting in Ukraine. Many European countries have joined the sanctions, despite their own "economic costs".

"We are implementing a very ambitious policy to reduce dependence on imports of fossil fuels from Russia. This summer we will stop importing Russian coal, by the end of the year - Russian oil, and also sharply reduce gas imports from the Russian Federation", - Scholz said.

It should be noted that to date, Russia's income from the sale of energy resources to the European Union has doubled due to rising prices amid the threat of an embargo. The embargo planned for August was opposed by Germany, Austria and Hungary. Today, the head of the Hungarian Cabinet, Gargeli Gulyas, said that the country would veto any EU initiative that should lead to a restriction on the import of Russian energy resources.
