Starting October 24, WhatsApp* messenger will permanently stop working on outdated smartphones of the 2012 model, such as the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5 °C.

It is reported by REN TV. To use the service in the future, owners of outdated smartphones will have to buy a new, up-to-date mobile device.

“Also, owners of an iPhone with an operating system version older than iOS 12 will need to update their smartphone to a more modern version”, - the message says.

The publication notes that the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5 °C models were discontinued in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

In a number of Western countries, mobile device owners are advised to change devices at least once a year so as not to feel the negative consequences of loss of performance.

Earlier it was reported that in order to force customers to buy new devices, some manufacturers started the process of slowing down the system of older smartphones shortly after the release of new generation devices. Consumer associations protested against such actions, calling them illegal.
