Hospitals in France are preparing for the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic. The number of cases is expected to increase significantly in the next two weeks.

During the day on Friday, about 8.9 thousand people were infected with the Chinese virus - this is almost 1.5 thousand more than the maximum daily increase in cases at the peak of the spread of the epidemic in the country on March 31 of this year, when the disease was confirmed in about 7.5 thousand person per day.

“We are preparing for the fact that in the next two weeks more people will be hospitalized in intensive care units due to the outbreak of the epidemic in recent days”, - writes Reuters, citing Health Minister Olivier Veran.

The minister said that there are no plans to introduce national isolation in the country again. According to him, now France has other means that will be more effective in the fight against the virus, including large-scale testing of the population. The minister added that since recently in France, new cases of infection have been detected mainly in young people, whose complications are less likely to develop, the burden on French hospitals in recent months has been negligible. However, last Friday, 4.6 thousand patients were hospitalized per day - the number of hospitalized people has been growing for the sixth day in a row. According to Veran, the current hospitalization figures reflect the situation with the epidemic two weeks ago - that is, during the development of the disease. “Thus, it is obvious that in the next two weeks we expect an increase in the number of hospitalized people, including those who will be in intensive care units”, - added the minister.

Since the beginning of the spread of the epidemic in France, 317.7 thousand people have already fallen ill, most of them are still under the supervision of doctors. About 30.7 thousand people died from complications. So far, only 87.4 thousand people have managed to recover.
