Former Argentine President Cristina Kirchner was sentenced to six years in prison and banned from holding public office for life. Kirchner was found guilty in a corruption case.

Kirchner was the Argentine leader between 2007 and 2015. A year after she left the presidency, she was charged with corruption in the organization of road works in the province of Santa Cruz. When concluding contracts, the government, under pressure from Kirchner, granted preferences to the companies of the entrepreneur Lazaro Baes, with whom Kirchner was in cahoots. There are 12 defendants in the case. Prosecutors demanded 12 years in prison and a $1 billion fine for the former president.

In September, Kirchner was assassinated. The stranger pointed a gun at her. He was detained, the ex-president was not injured. The current Argentine leader, Alberto Fernandez, called the incident an assassination attempt.

"
