NYT editor quitted after the article calling for use of force against the protesters in the USA

The article "Send the troops" was written by Republican Senator Tom Cotton. The author stated in it that the "orgy of violence" that is happening on the streets of American cities can only be stopped by the "prevailing demonstration of power". In the publication, Cotton also called on U.S. President Donald Trump to bring army units into the cities in line with the 1807 mutiny law.

The public reaction was lightning fast. Black newspaper staff said the note endangered them. The editors removed the material and apologized.

According to the newspaper’s publisher, the publication of this article was “the result of a serious violation of editorial processes.” Observers, on the other hand, noted that the decision to withdraw the published material was made several hours after the editor himself announced that it was not in the editorial spirit to refuse to publish opinions with which he personally disagreed.

Let us recall that previously the editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Stan Wisnowski, quit because of the heading “Homes Also Matter” in an article that condemned pogroms — a pun with the name of the Black Lives Matter movement.
