During a phone call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy, US President Joe Biden invited him to visit Washington this summer. At the same time, at the upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Biden intends to defend Ukraine's sovereignty.

This was announced by Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan. Recall that Zelensky, answering a question from an Axios journalist, said that Biden would make a mistake if he did not consult with him before meeting with Putin. He suggested that his American counterpart meet "at any time and anywhere in the world" before he held a summit with Putin in Geneva on June 16. The Ukrainian president assured that Kiev understands what steps Moscow is taking. He also pointed out that Ukraine has a deeper understanding of Russia due to their many years of neighborhood and the war in Donbass.

Zelenskiy was surprised by Washington's decision when the US authorities did not impose sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 operator and its management. Zelensky called the gas pipeline under construction "a real weapon in the hands of Russia".

“It’s not very clear why bullets for these weapons can be provided by such a great country as the United States”, - Zelensky said.

It's worth reminding that at a meeting in Geneva, Vladimir Putin is going to discuss with Joe Biden the settlement of international conflicts in hot spots, disarmament processes, the fight against terrorism and pandemic, as well as environmental issues. Biden intends to raise the issue of human rights violations.
