In Portugal, the president of the Benfica football club, Luis Filipe Vieira (pictured), was arrested in a fraud case and his friend, businessman Jose Antonio dos Santos, was detained.

According to Sol, the case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Office. More than a hundred people participated in the operation to detain Vieira. At the same time, searches were carried out in the club's office.

The media indicate that the arrest of the head of Benfica is the culmination of Operation Monte Branco in 2011, after which a Swiss criminal group of fraudsters who laundered money and helped to evade taxes were liquidated.

As a reminder, Benfica is the 37-time Portuguese champion. Vieira has owned the club since 2003 and has won the championship seven times. In addition to football, he is also involved in real estate.
