According to the German Defense Ministry, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg unilaterally canceled a visit to Berlin scheduled for today, June 9, where meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht were to be held.

“The NATO Secretary General announced that his visit to Berlin will be canceled in the near future”, - the German Defense Ministry said (quoted from Bild).

The German Cabinet confirmed the cancellation of meetings and subsequent press briefings. The reasons for the cancellation of the NATO Secretary General's visit to Germany were not announced. According to unofficial information from the German media, Stoltenberg was diagnosed with shingles, which became a complication after COVID-19. This is reported by Interfax.

“The Secretary General will make his planned visit to Germany (and Romania) remotely and not in person. He has been diagnosed with shingles, which can occur after COVID-19, and is working from home”, - a NATO official told Reuters.

One of the topics of Stoltenberg's planned meetings was to be preparations for the NATO summit in Madrid. The event is scheduled for June 28-30.
