A member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian Opposition Maksim Znak was detained on Wednesday in a criminal case against this council. Searches took place in his apartment.

Earlier, the Sign passed in this case as a witness. Now his legal status in this case is unknown, the council said. The press service of the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee clarified that they did not know anything about the detention of the Sign, writes Interfax.

The sign stopped communicating on Wednesday morning. He was scheduled to have an interview for radio "Echo of Moscow", but at the time agreed in advance, he did not go on the air. Before his disappearance, Znak managed to inform his colleagues that people in civilian clothes and in masks had come to him. He was taken away from the headquarters of the unregistered presidential candidate Viktor Babariko. No further information came from him, his phone is turned off. Searches were carried out at the headquarters itself.

Now the Belarusian Investigative Committee is investigating a criminal case against the opposition council. He was aroused because "the very creation of the Coordination Council and its activities are aimed at seizing power in the country, it threatens the national security of Belarus".

The opposition created a coordinating council in order to peacefully transfer power in the country after the conflicting results of the presidential elections. He intends to seek new fair elections in the country. The current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called the created opposition council "an attempt to seize power in the country", and its members - "Nazis". According to him, the current government has enough leverage to rein in the "hot head of the opposition". The authorities began to harass members of this council.

Earlier, the special services forced Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who participated in the presidential elections, to leave the country, she is now in Lithuania. In addition, the former director of the oldest Belarusian theater, the Kupalovsky Theater, Pavel Latushko, said that he left the country because the KGB officers threatened him with a criminal case if he did not stop criticizing the current government and left the country. The persecution began against other members of the Coordination Council. Earlier it was also reported that one of its members, the former head of Babariko's headquarters, Maria Kolesnikova, was tried to be expelled from the country by force , but she tore her passport on the border with Ukraine to prevent this. Now she was detained, she is in a border detachment in the Gomel region.
