About three thousand protesters were detained in Belarus

As a result of the riots in Belarus after the presidential elections, about three thousand people were detained, according to the press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic Olga Chemodanova.

- On the night of August 9-10, 2020, focal gatherings of citizens in the area of polling stations and in central squares in 33 settlements were recorded in the country. In total, about three thousand people were detained throughout the country for participating in unauthorized mass events. Of these, about a thousand are in Minsk and more than two in other regions of the republic, the message says.

According to official data, more than fifty citizens were injured, in addition, 39 police officers were injured, some of them were hospitalized.

We will remind that earlier it was reported about the death in the course of the riots, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus denied this information.

Meanwhile, the headquarters of opposition presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya refused to recognize the election results. According to preliminary official data, Alexander Lukashenko was supported by over 80% of the country's residents, and Tikhanovskaya won almost 10% of the vote. However, the headquarters is sure that 70-80% voted for Tikhanovskaya.
