On November 10, the Japanese Defense Forces and the United States Armed Forces launched a large-scale joint exercise Keen Sword ("Sharp Sword").

The exercises will last until November 19, and will involve about 26,000 military Japanese land, sea and air self-defense forces, and about ten thousand American soldiers, including from the Space Force.

The exercises will simulate the defense of the islands. They will focus on the island of Tokunoshima in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima, where the Osprey convertiplanes will be deployed. About two dozen ships and ten US ships, as well as 250 and 120 aircraft, will be involved in the exercises from Japan. They will be joined by four warships and two aircraft from Australia, Canada and the UK.

In October, we recall, a joint large-scale exercise of South Korea and the United States was held with the participation of 140 South Korean combat aircraft, including F-35A, F-15 and KF-16. In the United States and South Korea, they believe that the DPRK authorities can conduct nuclear tests before November 8 - the midterm elections to the Congress are scheduled for this date in the United States.
