The trial of cocaine smuggling into Europe with the help of the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires has started in Argentina. In a Latin American country, there are two accused in the case, three more are detained in Moscow. The alleged organizer of the supplies, Andrey Kovalchuk, was extradited to Russia from Germany.

According to Telam, mechanic Alexander Chikalo spoke at the Argentine court. He denies any involvement in the supply of cocaine. He also claims that Kovalchuk offered him to participate in sending suitcases to Russia, but he refused.

Former Argentine police officer Ivan Bliznyuk did not testify, neither did he admit his guilt.

A new meeting on this case is scheduled for February 25.

We recall you that the Russian Federation and Argentina conducted a joint operation to suppress the supply of drugs to the European market in 2017. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, a huge consignment of cocaine was found in one of the buildings of the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires - its weight was 367 kg.

Hearings in Russia started in November last year. On February 10, during the court session, the Russian ambassador to Mexico, Victor Cornelli, who had previously worked as ambassador to Argentina, was questioned. According to Kommersant, he spoke well enough about one of the defendants, the former manager of the embassy, Ali Abyanov. He also indicated that he had seen Kovalchuk only once.

It's worth reminding that the discovered cocaine was burned. The burning was attended by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov and the Minister of Security of Argentina Patricia Bullrich.
