The heads of the Russian and Turkish Defense Ministries Sergei Shoigu and Hulusi Akar signed a memorandum on the creation of a joint center to control the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to Shoigu, the agreements reached by the leaders of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the introduction of Russian peacekeepers into the NKR territory, helped to stop the bloodshed and create conditions for the return to a peaceful life.

- The presence of Russian peacekeepers will ensure stability in the crisis region, stop the flows of refugees, will facilitate their return to their places of residence, - RIA Novosti quotes the minister.

The head of the department noted that the joint monitoring center will allow "to exercise reliable control over the observance of the cessation of hostilities by the parties and form a solid basis for the settlement of the long-standing conflict."

It is indicated that the center will be located on the territory of Azerbaijan. It will become a body to deal with complaints, questions and problems related to any violations of agreements.

Let us remind that the signed agreement caused a wave of discontent among Armenians. The opposition called the signing of the agreement "a betrayal", after which pogroms began in the government building and in the residence of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The day before, protesters in Yerevan demanded the resignation of Pashinyan, who had earlier declared his personal responsibility for losing the war for Karabakh.
