Moroccan citizen Saadoun Brahim, who was sentenced to death in the Donetsk People's Republic for participating in hostilities on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has Ukrainian citizenship, said the father of the sentenced. He insists that his son is not a foreign mercenary.

"We, as a family, suffer from the lack of contact with a lawyer to exchange legal information, and this exacerbates our anguish. Saadoun Brahim, enrolled in the Ukrainian army of his own free will, is currently imprisoned in an entity that is not recognized by either the UN or Morocco", - the father of the sentenced man tells Reuters.

He said that his son was taken prisoner as a member of the Ukrainian Navy, he was wearing a Ukrainian uniform - the government army. The military man confirmed in his testimony that he had voluntarily entered military service in the Ukrainian army. According to the Moroccan embassy, the soldier pointed to his Ukrainian citizenship.

It's worth reminding that the board of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the decision of the court in the DPR, which sentenced two prisoners of war from the UK, Sean Pinner and Aiden Aslin, and a captive resident of Morocco, Brahim Saadoun, to death. The British were in Mariupol. They voluntarily surrendered. After that, they turned to Prime Minister Boris Johnson with a request to exchange them for opposition MP Viktor Medvedchuk, who was detained in Ukraine on suspicion of treason.
