The Democratic Party of the United States will gain control of the Senate after Katherine Cortez-Mastro wins in Nevada, CNN reports.

According to the channel, 96% of the ballots have now been counted, Cortes-Mastro outperforming Republican Adam Laxalt by half a percentage point. This is less than five thousand votes.

Now both Republicans and Democrats each have 49 seats in the Senate. A victory in Nevada would put the Democratic Party in 50th place. The election results in Georgia are still unclear. If Democrats and Republicans get equally - 50 seats each, then the Senate will still remain with President Joe Biden 's party members, since with an equality of votes, the vice president's vote becomes decisive.

Biden has already celebrated a Democratic victory in the Senate, telling reporters in a speech that the party is now focused on the upcoming runoff in Georgia.

- We feel good where we are, and I know that I am a presumptuous optimist, I understood this from the very beginning, but I am not surprised by the voter turnout. I am incredibly pleased with the voter turnout. So, I feel good and look forward to the next two years,” the American leader said.

In his opinion, the turnout is a reflection of "the quality of our candidates" and that they are all "running for the same program." Earlier it was reported that the victory of the Republicans in the midterm elections will not lead to a revision of the American policy of helping Ukraine, although it can also limit the free hand of the Biden administration.
