Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (pictured) has pledged $6.1 million worth of lethal weapons, including machine guns, pistols and sniper rifles, to Ukraine as the "threat of Russian invasion" rises.

“The situation is rapidly escalating and we are demonstrating our resolve. It is important for Canadians and the world to know that Canada will continue to support Ukraine and its independence, integrity and sovereignty, including its right to self-defense", - CTV News quoted Trudeau as saying.

The politician also indicated that the supply of lethal weapons and ammunition is a response to a request from Kiev, which has already received weapons from the United States, Great Britain, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Poland.

Moreover, Ottawa is ready to give Kiev a $390 million loan, in addition to the $117 million loan already offered in January.

Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov called the decision of the country's authorities "unacceptable", as well as any supply of weapons to a country with an unresolved internal armed conflict.

“This does not bring peace closer and only prolongs and aggravates the fratricidal conflict in Ukraine”, - the diplomat said.

Meanwhile, the United States continues to supply Ukraine with weapons, sending regular aircraft with military equipment.

Kiev receives support from NATO.

It should be noted that the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, said that Washington's statements that Moscow wants war and in any way threatens Ukraine are "complete absurdity".
