17 individuals fell under the new restrictions, including the head of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov and the director of the Renova Group of Companies Viktor Vekselberg.
The Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that restrictions were also imposed on members of the Vekselberg family, State Duma deputies Yuri Afonin, Yevgeny Bessonov, Leonid Kalashnikov, Vladimir Kashin, Nikolai Kolomeitsev, and others.
The sanctions include freezing assets in Japan and a ban on financial transfers.
It's worth reminding that earlier the Russian government included Japan in the list of unfriendly countries, to which the Secretary General of the Japanese government Hirokazu Matsuno expressed "regret". This list includes countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia against the background of the ongoing military special operation in Ukraine.
In addition to sanctions against the Russian Federation, Japan supported Kiev with military equipment.
