Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan adopted a declaration on allied relations between states. The ceremony of signing the document took place in the city of Shusha, liberated from the Armenian occupation.

“The joint declaration of alliance signed by us today will raise our relations to the highest level. The name of the declaration speaks for itself. All points of this declaration are a guarantee of our further cooperation”, - Aliyev said, adding that the document testifies that Azerbaijan and Turkey will continue to be united. He also called the declaration a "historic achievement". The document provides for cooperation, primarily in the defense and military spheres.

As noted by Anadolu agency, Erdogan became the first president of Turkey who visited the lands of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation. Recall that the city of Shusha came under the control of Baku after the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh in the fall of 2020. Erdogan, in turn, announced his intention to open a Turkish consulate in Shusha in the near future.
