The European Parliament supported the proposal of the European Commission to provide Ukraine with macro-financial assistance in the amount of 1.2 billion euros. Now the initiative must be approved by the Council of the European Union.

598 MEPs out of 694 voted for supporting Ukraine with money. 55 voted against, the rest abstained.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von Leyen, said that Kiev would receive this money in two tranches as an emergency aid against the background of the conflict with Russia.

At the beginning of last month, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanyshina said that Kiev could agree on the sixth macro-financial assistance program of the European Union in the first half of 2022.

It's worth reminding that in December 2021, President Biden signed the US defense budget for fiscal year 2022 in the amount of $768.2 billion, in which $300 million is provided for military assistance to Ukraine.

In recent months, Ukraine has already received about $1.5 billion in support from the West, and over 1,000 tons of weapons and military equipment.
