The global consequences of the restrictive measures that the West is preparing against Russia are inevitable, says US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen (pictured). She recalled that Washington, together with the European Union, is preparing sanctions against Russian individuals and companies.

"Of course, we want Russia to bear the biggest costs. But we recognize that sanctions will have global implications", - Yellen said on RFI radio.

She noted that the measures will include export controls and will have a significant impact on the Russian economy.

But at the same time, Washington acknowledges the inevitable consequences of such sanctions on energy markets. On that issue, the US is cooperating with the European Union, "trying to best protect them from undue influence" by ensuring that "oil and natural gas continue to flow to Europe". It should be noted that even now European gas storage facilities are 93.4% empty. Less than 7% of gas reserves remain in UGS facilities for the needs of EU consumers.

At the beginning of the month, it became known that the European Union had prepared a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in the event of an aggravation of the military conflict on the territory of Ukraine. The new sanctions affect a number of important areas for the country, in particular, high-tech components.
