The United States, along with the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, stopped the activities of the RSOCKS botnet, located in Russia, the US Department of Justice said.

“The operation disrupted a high-tech Russian cybercriminal organization that carried out cyber intrusions in the United States and abroad”, - the ministry said in a statement.

The agency said that RSOCKS has hacked millions of computers around the world. The operation to combat these hackers began in 2017, when it became known that they had hacked about 325,000 electronic devices, many of which were located in San Diego County. Initially, the botnet was designed for the Internet of things, but the network was subsequently used on other types of devices, including the Android platform and PCs.

The investigation was carried out by the US Attorney's Office, the FBI, and the Department of Computer Crimes of the Ministry of Justice. Neither the names nor the number of hackers involved in the network are disclosed.

Recall that at the beginning of the year, Roman Muromsky, a member of the REvil hacker group, who was detained at the request of the United States, was detained, who is suspected of illegal circulation of payment means. The detention of the group members became known earlier, Russia does not intend to extradite them to Washington.
