Yerevan will agree to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh if it becomes clear that Baku, supported by Turkey, will not agree to negotiations, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said.

Sarkissian explained that earlier Armenia "suspended" the process of recognizing the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh in order to "not complicate" the negotiation process on the settlement.

- It's such a tunnel. And if at the end of this tunnel there is a light - the light of a final peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem - then we can wait a little longer. And if there is no light, that is, if it is clear that Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey, will in no way go through negotiations, then, naturally, Armenia will recognize the independence of Karabakh, - Sarkissian said in an interview with Kommersant, adding that he is ready to do everything what depends on him to start the truce process.

He noted that “if the Azerbaijani side announces that they are ready for an armistice and are ready to continue negotiations, then there is hope. Otherwise, God will help everyone, because then this war can develop into a completely different war". Sarkissian compared it to the war in Syria, but warned that this "will already be a much more tragic and large-scale war".

Earlier, the president of the unrecognized republic, Arayik Harutyunyan, indicated that he could appeal to the Armenian authorities and the international community to recognize the independence of Karabakh, if he does not see Baku to resolve the issue peacefully.

Meanwhile, the Spanish parliament called on to recognize the independence of the NKR.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that it would not be possible to resolve this issue peacefully : the country would first recapture its territory and then sit down at the negotiating table.

The war between Azerbaijan and Armenia for control in Nagorno-Karabakh resumed on September 27. Mobilization was announced in both countries. Azerbaijan is supported in the conflict by Turkey, Armenia - by Iran. In the hostilities, more than 3,000 soldiers were killed, including foreign mercenaries. The authorities of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic announced the deaths of at least 30 civilians during the fighting.
