Human rights defenders from the international organization Amnesty International were unable to get access to migrants who are currently on the Belarusian-Polish border. The Belarusian authorities denied them access.

"Amnesty International has asked the Belarusian authorities' access to the border area and the people who are there in response to the Belarusian authorities were listed that." The Belarusian side does not see any benefit in the visit", - stated in the message of the organization.

Human rights defenders were outraged by this response. "The people who remain at the border now face hunger, insecurity and a shocking level of brutality from the Belarusian forces, which are forcing them into Poland, where Polish officers, in turn, are pushing them back. The opposing forces are playing a dirty game with human lives", - said the representative of the human rights organization, which deals with the rights of refugees, Jennifer Foster.

Human rights activists managed to communicate with 75 migrants who were "lured" to Belarus, promising them " unhindered crossing the border with the EU".

“Amnesty International's research revealed beatings and other serious torture and ill-treatment, deprivation of food, water, housing and sanitation, as well as theft of phones and money or extortion of bribes from the Belarusian armed forces,” the human rights activists said in a statement.

One of the refugees from Syria told human rights activists that he, as part of a group of 80 people, was taken to the border in a military truck, after which he was ordered to cross the border under threat of launching dogs on them. “The soldiers ran after us, clubbing everyone who didn't run fast enough”, - he added.

Human rights activists called on Belarus to immediately stop violations of migrants' rights at the border.

Recall that the crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland escalated in early November, when a group of migrants tried to illegally cross the cordon. After an unsuccessful attempt, they set up camp at the border.

The Polish authorities accuse Belarus of aggravating the migration crisis. In Belarus, these accusations are denied. At the same time, the country admits that it has no money left to fight refugees because of the economic sanctions of the European Union.
