In the United States, ex-police officer found guilty of manslaughter of Floyd

Chauvin was found guilty of murder in the second and third degree, that is, unintentional, as well as causing death by negligence of the second degree.

Second-degree murder is in this case the most serious crime, for which the maximum punishment is 40 years in prison.

The jury began on Monday evening and the ruling was issued on Tuesday afternoon. All the central TV channels of the country were broadcasting from the courtroom.

According to Judge Peter Cahill, all the jury agreed with the verdict, and “in eight weeks from now, the verdict will be pronounced”. The court will clarify the dates later.

It is noted that Chauvin, who was present at the meeting, reacted calmly to the verdict. He is currently in custody.

George Floyd died in May 2020. The death occurred after a white policeman at the time of arrest for nine minutes squeezed the victim's neck with his knee. The death of 46-year-old George Floyd sparked massive protests across the country as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Note that the Minneapolis authorities agreed to pay $ 27 million as part of the pre-trial settlement of the lawsuit by the family of George Floyd.
