The German authorities detained a Russian citizen who worked in one of the German universities on suspicion of espionage.

According to The Inside, citing a statement by the German Prosecutor General's Office, the detained Ilnur N., who worked as a research assistant in one of the German universities, is suspected of working for the Russian special services.

"Between October 2020 and June 2021, he met at least three times with representatives of Russian intelligencer", - the newspaper notes.

The siloviki believe that at two out of three meetings held with Russian intelligence officers, the scientist transferred information from the university to them for a monetary reward. The nature of the information provided and the area of scientific development of the detained scientist is not reported.

Earlier it became known about a whole series of "spy scandals" related to the mutual expulsion of Russian and European diplomats. In a number of cases - in particular, in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria - scandals were associated with the actions of the Russian special services concerning the explosions of ammunition depots in warehouses in Europe.

The investigators suspected the notorious agents of Petrov and Boshirov, the Russians Mishkin and Chepiga, who became notorious for the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury, England, of the explosions.

In turn, the Russian side categorically denied the charges against it. Meanwhile, the media reported that the agents who had become famous were sent to work in the Russian regions.
