The script will be based on George Martin's cycle The Tale of Dunk and Egg, also known as The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The action of the books (so far there are three, nine are planned) takes place 90 years before the start of "A Song of Ice and Fire", on which "Game of Thrones" was filmed.

HBO is beginning work on a prequel to Game of Thrones, Variety reports.

According to Variety sources, development is at an early stage, HBO has not yet made an official announcement, the project does not yet have a writer or showrunner. It is planned that each episode of the new TV project will last about an hour.

The channel is currently filming another Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, which is slated to premiere in 2022.

In an interview with Radio Sputnik, the film's prospects were assessed by film and series development director of the communication agency SALO, film critic Alexander Golubchikov: “The series based on stories preceding the events of Game of Thrones was being developed by HBO. at the stage of the last seasons of the classic "Game of Thrones". Therefore, the fact that at the moment HBO is just starting to develop a new season is strange, but, most likely, some developments have already been there, it's just now an informational lead. And all these years neither the writers nor the producers sat idle, but were looking for some opportunities, locations, etc. As for the "aftertaste", nothing will spoil what came before, not a single remake, not a single sequel ever spoil what already created.
