The Polish government decided to terminate the agreement with Russia on gas supplies ahead of schedule. The country's authorities broke the intergovernmental agreement with the Russian Federation, which was signed in 1993.

This was told by the representative of the Polish government for strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimsky.

“On May 13, the government of Mateusz Morawiecki adopted a resolution to break the agreement between the government of Poland and the government of the Russian Federation. After 30 years, it can be stated that relations in the gas industry between Poland and Russia cease to exist”, - Naimsky said on the air of Polish Radio (quoted by TASS).

Answering questions about the future of the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, he said that this is the property of EuRoPol GAZ, which is a joint venture between the Russian Gazprom and the Polish PGNiG with the participation of the Polish gas pipeline network operator Gaz-System. A representative of the Polish government noted that it is planned to transit gas through Poland through this section of the pipeline, as well as deliver gas from Germany to Poland.

Russian gas deliveries to Poland ceased on April 27 due to the unwillingness of local authorities to make payments under the contract in rubles, as Moscow demanded. In early March, Gazprom claimed that Poland was continuing to buy gas, but through Germany. A few days later, these deliveries ceased. The Russian government also imposed counter-sanctions on the Polish company EuRoPol GAZ, which became known on May 11, and the next day Gazprom announced that it would no longer use the Polish section of the pipeline to supply gas to Europe.
