Members of the foreign policy commissions of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan spoke out for the introduction of economic sanctions against Russia. They intend to implement such measures in the event of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

According to the Kyodo agency, as a specific sanction, those present proposed a ban on the import of natural gas from Russia. Opinions were also expressed that it is necessary to start working on this issue with representatives of business circles.

At the same time, representatives of the Japanese Foreign Ministry during the meeting limited themselves to commenting on the "intention to work closely with the United States" on the issue of restrictive measures.

The day before, we recall, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky called on foreign intelligence to go on the offensive, because, according to him, the country allegedly faces real threats to its territorial integrity.

On Monday, January 24, it became known that NATO countries are deploying warships and aircraft to Bulgaria, Romania and Lithuania. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the allocation of 1.2 billion euros to Ukraine amid the threat of war.

Russia has repeatedly rejected rumors about an allegedly planned invasion of Ukraine from its side.
