The first case of monkeypox infection was detected in the capital of Peru, Lima, said the head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, Jorge Lopez.

He told TV Peru that the patient had undergone lab tests the previous day, which now confirmed he had an infection. The infected person is a foreigner, he lives in Peru. Presumably, he was in contact with citizens who arrived from abroad. Currently, he has been isolated, possible contacts of the infected person are being established.

Last week, the World Health Network acknowledged that monkeypox has now become a pandemic. The organization called on the World Health Organization to also recognize the disease as a pandemic.
