"Australia has introduced targeted financial sanctions and entry restrictions against a Russian individual and four Russian companies associated with the construction and operation of a railway bridge across the Kerch Strait", - the statement of the head of the department, Maris Payne, is given on the website of the Australian Foreign Ministry (pictured).

The minister said that the decision on the restrictions was made in coordination with Canada and are consistent with the actions previously taken in the European Union.

"The bridge across Kerch is an attempt to consolidate Russian control over the illegally annexed Crimean peninsula. By their actions, these persons are involved in attempts to legitimize the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol and in supporting separatist activity in eastern Ukraine", - Payne said.

As stated in the statement, now in the Australian sanctions lists in Ukraine there are 168 individuals and 52 legal entities.

The day before, the Canadian Foreign Ministry reported that the country's government is introducing a new package of anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the annexation of Crimea to Russia. The restrictions included the general director of the transport company "Grand Service Express" Alexander Ganov, the general director of Mostotrest Leonid Ryzhenkin, the enterprises "Lenpromtransproekt", JSC "Directorate for the construction of the Berkatit railway Tommom Yakutsk", Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Crimean Railway" and the Crimean Insurance company.
