Since Monday Italian authorities have greatly weakened quarantine measures, and after three months of this blockade tourists reappeared in Venice.

On this occasion The Guardian published a picture story from the most beautiful city on Earth.

In the pictures - the iconic places of Venice. Gondoliers dressed in masks ride the city guests on the Grand Canal. Terraces of the two oldest and most famous Venetian cafes - Quadri and Florian - opened on St. Mark's Square. Street vendors lay souvenirs, almost all the restaurants and shops in the San Marco area have also opened. Tourists line up to enter the Doge's Palace. Inside, it is necessary to wear masks and maintain distance, the halls are under the control of the caretakers to avoid crowding.

However, not everyone in the city is glad to visit: members of the organization Comitato No Grandi Navi held a rally near the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Salute, protesting against crowds of tourists and the call of cruise ships. In addition to Venice, other Italian cities with their sights were opened to foreigners, including St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Pompeii, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the churches of Florence and Milan.
