The tsunami triggered by the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Haapai underwater volcano in the Pacific Ocean caused the death and damage of more than 10 ships.

Some of the affected ships were capsized by giant waves, several ships sank.

“The ports of Kochi prefecture on the Japanese island of Shikoku suffered the most from rising water levels,” reports REN TV .

The tsunami swept one of the ships into the open ocean, the waves overturned the fishing boat. Data on the number of damaged and sunken ships is being specified.

Earlier it became known that the tsunami hit the Japanese coast the day before. Due to the rampant disaster from the disaster area, the authorities decided to evacuate 230,000 people in eight prefectures.

Expecting giant destructive waves, the authorities sent residents to specially created evacuation centers.

At the same time, a powerful tsunami, triggered by the eruption of the underwater volcano Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Haapai in the Pacific Ocean, also hit the coast of California in the United States.

The Kingdom of Tonga was the first to suffer from giant waves on January 14. There, the flow of water demolished the fences, the drivers of the cars barely managed to escape from the violence of the elements.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was located at a depth of 33 km. The volcanic eruption was the largest since December.
