On the eve of the holidays, regional governors conducted polls of local residents with a proposal to postpone the working day from December 31 to 26. Most of the respondents supported the initiative. On December 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin recommended that all regions make December 31 a non-working day. After that, other regions, including Moscow and the Moscow region, joined the initiative.
All civil servants will have a rest on this day. Private companies were also asked to give all their employees a day off on the last day of the year.
Earlier, deputies from the Liberal Democratic Party proposed to make December 31 a day off on a permanent basis, but the State Duma did not support this initiative . The Russians themselves do not all support the official day off on this day . Those who support the initiative, and there are exactly half of them, believe that this day is not a working mood anyway. Those who are against say that there are too many holidays in the country to rest even on December 31st.
