In connection with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, fireworks in honor of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Vienna were already canceled in Moscow, and then - for the first time in many years - the traditional parade itself was postponed to May 9.

However, the fireworks on the Victory Day will take place in Russian cities anyway.

According to the Interfax news agency, on the day of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, festive artillery fireworks will be held in Moscow and five other hero cities and cities of military glory of the Western Military District (ZVO).

According to the commander of the ZVO, Alexander Zhuravlev, fireworks can be seen from 22:00 for ten minutes in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Tula and Smolensk. The number of salvos of artillery guns, however, will be limited to only thirty, but salute installations will release several tens of thousands of fireworks into the sky. "Traditionally, each salvo will be named and dedicated to the memory of the fallen defenders of the Fatherland, rear workers, commanders," - said the press service of the Western Military District.

When the parade will now take place on Red Square in Moscow is still unknown. Among the previously proposed dates were called June 24 - the anniversary of the first Victory Parade in 1945 or September 3. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently signed a federal law to postpone the end date of World War II to this day, although it was previously traditionally believed that the war ended on September 2. It was on this day in 1945 with the participation of Soviet representatives that the capitulation of Japan, the last ally of fascist Germany, was signed.

The epidemiological situation with coronavirus, meanwhile, remains tense in Russia. Over the past day, about 6.4 thousand people fell ill with this infection in Russia , more than 93.5 thousand people have already been infected. At the same time, the increase in the incidence rate is faster than in most countries - today Russia has surpassed Iran in terms of the number of infected people, having already reached eighth place in the world, although it was in tenth place two days ago.

Almost half - 48.4 thousand of those infected in Russia are concentrated in Moscow, but the increase in the incidence in the regions of the country is even faster than in the capital - at the beginning of the outbreak in Moscow there were more than two-thirds of the infected Russians. For the entire time of the pandemic in Russia, 867 people died from the coronavirus.
