The European Union is going to introduce the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions
The European Union is preparing a sixth package of restrictive measures against Russia, which will likely contain "some form of oil embargo", said European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis (pictured).

“When we impose sanctions, we must do it in such a way that they increase pressure on Russia, but at the same time minimize the damage to ourselves,” Dombrovskis said.

So far, the details of the sanctions have not been agreed. These could include phasing out oil from Russia or imposing export tariffs at a certain price cap. On the eve of the European Commission's deputy head for values and transparency, Vera Yurova, said that a complete ban on gas imports from Russia could turn into a serious energy crisis for the European Union.

At present, the EU is almost completely dependent on external gas supplies. 45% is Russian gas. By the middle of next month, the EC will draw up a plan to eliminate the EU's dependence on fuel supplies from the Russian Federation from 2027.
