Vedomosti: Moscow plans to tighten quarantine measures

According to sources of Vedomosti, now officials are considering several options at once, the most stringent of which prescribes the re-introduction of a strict access regime.

“The City Hall is now in a difficult situation - now it needs to find the right arguments to explain why the coronavirus has returned and this requires serious restrictions”, - the message says.

According to Kommersant, officials understand that the previously introduced measures hurt the economy, so now they are faced with the task of choosing a scenario that will help preserve people's health, but will not “finish off” the remnants of the business that survived the spring lockdown.

As the newspaper notes, a second lockdown in the capital may be introduced in the next two weeks. This will happen if the incidence of COVID-19 does not slow down.

Now the infection in the capital is spreading at an unusually rapid pace. Moscow occupies a leading position in the number of cases among all regions of the country. By the morning of October 4, 303,940 cases of COVID-19 were reported in the capital. The increase in infections per day was 3327 cases. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 253,031 people have recovered, 5343 have died.

At the end of September, when the numbers on the number of infections went up sharply, the city authorities recommended that people over 65, pregnant women and chronically ill patients return to self-isolation. Companies were ordered to transfer up to half of their employees to remote work. To prevent infection in children's collectives, early holidays were announced in all schools in the capital on October 5, which will last two weeks instead of one.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of coronavirus infections has exceeded 1.2 million, and 21,358 people have died from the infection.
