In the Netherlands, for the first time in the world, the death of a patient who re-contracted the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 was recorded.

The first death in the world due to re-infection with coronavirus was recorded in the Netherlands. According to a report by Dutch doctors published on the website of the Oxford University Press, a case of re-infection with coronavirus was recorded in an 89-year-old Dutch citizen suffering from Waldenström's disease and receiving anti-B-cell therapy.

"Initially, she was hospitalized with a high fever, severe cough and a positive coronavirus test", - RT reports.

Five days after the start of the treatment, all symptoms of the disease, except for slight weakness, disappeared and the pensioner was discharged from the hospital.

However, two months later, she was again admitted to the hospital with a fever. She had a cough and shortness of breath. When the patient was tested for coronavirus, it was again positive.

This time, despite the efforts of doctors, the woman's condition worsened, and two weeks later she died.

The facts of re-infection of people with coronavirus in the world were recorded earlier, but usually patients were saved.

"This is the first death in the world after a second coronavirus disease", - the newspaper notes. To study the cases of re-infections with COVID-19, a special research group was created at the World Health Organization.

According to Johns Hopkins University, 37,801,975 people have become infected with the coronavirus in the world, 1,080,682 of them have died. The first places in the number of deaths are occupied by the USA, Brazil, India, Mexico, Great Britain, Italy and Peru.

1,312,310 people contracted covid-19 in Russia, including 13,592 in the last 24 hours. In total, 22,722 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic. Most cases were recorded in Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and the Sverdlovsk region.
