Regional Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolay Bondarenko was detained on suspicion of participating in opposition protests on January 31.

About this in Telegram was reported by the deputy Olga Alimova. As she explained, her colleague was detained at the entrance of her own house, after which he was taken to the department.

Bondarenko also confirmed the information about his detention. On his YouTube channel, he posted a video from the police department, in which he explains the reasons for his arrest. He is accused of violating the rules for holding rallies for the January 31 demonstration.

The deputies believe that there may be several reasons for the arrest of Bondarenko. First, directly for participation in the rally. Secondly, the communist could have been intimidated so that he would not run for the State Duma elections. Thus, the competitors decided to get rid of him in advance, believes, in particular, Alimova. Another version, for which the deputy could be detained, is the deputy's protest act. Earlier, he unfolded in the building of the regional Duma a banner "No to political repression!".
